| This is a 1992 Yamaha Seca II
(XJ600S). I purchased it used, in 2009,
for $1300, as pictured below. |

|
| Unknown to me, at the time of
purchase, the bike had been laid down hard on
its right side. I began stripping the
paint down to repaint it and found 2" of
body-filler in the tank. When that was
removed, I realized the handlebars had dented
the tank badly enough to dent it through the
inner skin. The steering stops on the
triple, made of cast iron, were also badly bent.
Since I had purchased the XJ600 to replace my
XS400, I decided to convert it to a traditional
naked-style bike. |
| |
| My first attempt, while good,
was not fantastic. I used a Trail tech
Vapor speedometer and while it was a very nice
unit, I could never get the accuracy of the
tachometer where I wanted it. The
fabricated headlamp mounts also pointed the
headlamp too high. I did enjoy the comfort
and handling of the bike, tremendously. |

| As a winter project for 2010,
I decided to rebuild the headlamp mounts and
lower the headlamp. I also decided to
change out the speedometer unit. I
fabricated a custom gauge set using FZ600 gauges
and modified the headlamp mounts. I
modified the frame to accommodate the later
style Seca II ('97/'98) rear tail plastics and
then repainted the bikes tank and plastics to
include a smaller decal and a center stripe.
I finished by repainting the wheels and adding
rim tape. This is the bike's current
state: |
