Directions: Print Directions

  Beginning at Cafe Caliente at 32nd & Meade St, in Denver Colorado, head west on 32nd Ave toward the mountains.  Turn left (south) on Kipling St.  Continue south on Kipling St. to Morrison Rd.  Turn right (west) on Morrison Rd.  Continue on Morrison Rd.  Morrison Rd will become Beer Creek Canyon Rd.  Continue west on Bear Creek Canyon Rd to Kerr Gulch Rd (County Rd 23).  Turn right (north) on Kerr Gulch Canyon Rd and continue north to Evergreen Parkway.  Turn left (west) on Evergreen Pkwy and continue west to Squaw Pass Rd (County Rd 66).  Turn right (west) on Squaw Pass Rd and continue west to Mt Evans Rd.  Turn left (south) on Mt Evans Rd.  Note:  Mt Evans Rd is seasonally closed and is a toll road.  Plan this trip for mid-summer and bring cash.  Continue south on Mt Evans road and travel to the peak of Mt Evans.  There is a visitor center at the top and a parking area for exploration. 
Once done at Mt Evans, continue north on Mt Evans Rd back to Squaw Pass Rd.  Turn left (west) on Squaw Pass Rd .  Squaw Pass Rd will become Chicago Creek Rd.  Continue north on Chicago Creek Rd into Idaho Springs Colorado.  At Idaho Springs, merge onto I-70 East, toward Denver.  Continue a short distance on I-70 and take exit for US-6 East.  Continue east on US-6 into Golden Colorado.  US-6 will merge with US-58.  Continue east on US-58 to I-70.  Merge back onto I-70 east and continue to the 32nd Ave exit.  Take the 32nd Ave exit; this exit will turn onto Youngfield Rd.  Turn left onto Youngfield Rd and continue a short distance to 32nd Ave.  Turn right on 32nd Ave and continue east back to 32nd and Meade St.

  Mt Evans Scenic Byway (Mt Evans RD) is the highest paved road in the nation.  At the top of Mt Evans is a visitor center which provides a great backdrop for photographing Colorado's mountain ranges.
